Leicester City are on the lookout for a new manager after deciding to axe Steve Cooper from his post and one gaffer they’re considering as a replacement has been regularly linked with Leeds United.

Cooper was installed as Leicester manager in the summer after the club were promoted, and Chelsea took boss Enzo Maresca. The Foxes currently sit in 16th place in the Premier League, making his sacking harsh.

But after four defeats in the last five games and losing at home to Maresca’s Chelsea on the weekend, the Leicester board decided to sack Cooper. They are now looking at replacements with plenty on the list.

Manager on Leeds radar now emerges as contender for Leicester

West Brom’s manager Carlos Corberan is on the radar. A gaffer that has impressed with the Baggies after starring as Huddersfield boss, split by a disappointing Greek stint with Super League giants Olympiakos.

Of course, Corberan has close ties with Leeds. The Spaniard managed the club’s U21 side for much of Marcelo Bielsa’s reign before being promoted to the first-team bench. Bielsa said he’s “very talented”.

Corberan was strongly linked with Leeds after the sacking of Jesse Marsch, while a report in September said Leeds are keeping tabs on Corberan in case they need to replace Daniel Farke in the Leeds dugout.

Now, numerous outlets are suggesting Leicester are going to raid West Brom for Corberan. Spanish newspaper Marca say Leicester are preparing to pay the £2m release clause to lure Corberan to Leicester.

Carlos Corberan’s stats as a manager since leaving Leeds United

While he is yet to manage in the Premier League, Corberan has more than proven himself in England’s second tier. He’s reached the play-offs with Huddersfield and then West Brom again, last season.

He’s done it at both clubs on a shoe string, having little to spend on players. His ability to coax hard work out of his players, and get the best out of them, while makign his teams hard to beat has caught the eye.

It feels likely that at some point in his managerial career, Corberan will end up at Leeds but the chances are that the Spaniard may be in the Premier League before Leeds have a chance of gaining promotion.
