Report: Leeds considering Carlos Corberan to replace Jesse Marsch at Elland Road

The Daily Mail claim Leeds United are considering a move to bring Carlos Corberan back to the club as manager to replace Jesse Marsch – after the American gaffer watched his side lose a crucial match against Nottingham Forest.

Corberan, 39, is currently impressing in the Championship with West Brom in what is his third spell in management since leaving his post at Elland Road. Initially Under-21’s manager, Corberan was also an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa.

But he moved on in the summer of 2020, the summer prior to Bielsa’s sacking. He joined Huddersfield and took the Terriers to the Championship play-off final, only to lose to Forest. His couple of years at Huddersfield caught the eye.

It saw Olympiakos come calling. But after two wins in 11 games, he was sacked – returning to England, and taking the West Brom job. Replacing Steve Bruce, he has won 11 of 16 and taking the Baggies into contention for promotion.

Everton are said to have considered a move for Corberan, before hiring Sean Dyche. It is believed they decided against a move as the Spaniard lacks Premier League experience. Leeds have more of a connection with the West Brom man.

Meanwhile, Marsch is struggling. Fans are calling for his head and despite a good first 45 minutes against Forest, Leeds lost again – 1-0 to Steve Cooper’s side. We now sit in 17th place, only above Everton on goal difference, four better.

Leeds considering move to bring Corberan back to the club

The issue for Marsch is that, the teams in and around Leeds picked up points. West Ham got a point at Newcastle, Leicester beat Villa away, Everton beat Arsenal and of course, Forest secured three points against Marsch’s men.

There seemed to be no plan B in the second half. Two games against Manchester United are next – followed by huge games against Southampton and Everton. So, is Corberan the man to take over from Marsch at Leeds?

Well, he knows the club – but Leeds need more than that right now. They need a fire fighter, to get themselves out of the mess they find themselves in. Corberan has no Premier League experience. The Leeds board are backing Marsch.
