The good cop, bad cop role potential new Leeds United manager played with Thomas Tuchel

The pressure is as intense as it possibly could be on Daniel Farke at Leeds United, with the Yorkshire side ready to sack their German manager this week – and a new name has been suggested.

With Leeds sitting in the relegation zone after six defeats in seven Premier League games, the Whites are considering their options. Reports say Farke needs a result in the next two matches or he will be sacked.

The 49ers are spoilt for choice… but who would you pick as Leeds United’s next manager?

Tough ask, but Farke has put himself in this position. Now, he will have to avoid defeat against either Chelsea on Wednesday or Liverpool on Saturday, with Leeds preparing for two home games in a row.

Behind the scenes, the 49ers will have a succession plan and will be busy compiling potential targets to bring to the club in case they do have to bite the bullet and sack Farke. A new name has been linked.

Leeds United offered former Hungary star Zsolt Low by RedBull

According to reports on Tuesday, RedBull have offered Zsolt Low to Leeds as a possible replacement for Farke. At this stage, it is unclear if Leeds have any interest in Low or have listened to their RedBull team.

Low is largely inexperienced, only ever working as a manager on one brief occasion as Leipzig’s interim gaffer earlier this year. He won just two of eight matches as manager of Jesse Marsch’s old club.

But he has huge experience as an assistant manager. Low made a name for himself as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s no.2 at Leipzig, before working with Ralf Rangnick and then moving to PSG to work with Thomas Tuchel.

Low would then move to Chelsea to work as Tuchel’s no.2 in west London, and The Mail claims that with Tuchel, the duo would often play good cop, bad cop. In this instance, newly-linked Low was good cop.

Pundits and journalists pile the pressure on Daniel Farke…

“I think it could turn ugly quite quickly with the fans. They have a tough run now.”

Chris Sutton

“If he changes his style and goes more forward-thinking, that would be a start.”

Ally McCoist

“I just think you’re dangerously close to that point [sacking Farke]. Very dangerously close to that point because of what we’ve seen.”

Graham Smyth

Which other managers have been linked with Leeds United?

Leeds have been linked with a handful of managers with Farke under pressure. The obvious two touted with the Yorkshire gig from the start, are Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou after recent departures.

Whether the 49ers, who control the majority stake at Rangers, would consider a Celtic legend in either Rodgers or Postecoglou, remains to be seen. Then there is Bo Svensson, but he is not overly interested.

Now, there is Low but he lacks the experience of Rodgers and Postecoglou. If Farke does get sacked by this time next week, the chances are that his replacement will be someone yet to be linked with Leeds.

For now, Farke remains in the hotseat at Elland Road and will be busy preparing his side to take on Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea. If he manages to avoid defeat, he might just save his future as boss for a few weeks.
