Leeds United’s Jack Harrison is enduring a rather dismal loan spell with Everton this season. To make matters more complicated for the winger, the Toffees have just parted ways with Sean Dyche.
Everton are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Sean Dyche. The Toffees have won just one of their last 12 Premier League matches and currently find themselves in 16th place of the table, just a point above the drop zone.
Jack Harrison is spending another season on loan at Goodison Park. He performed well last time round and Everton wanted him back for this campaign, though the 28-year-old has underperformed so far.
Harrison has failed to score or assist in 17 Premier League games for Everton in the 2024/25 season. His form has been rather woeful for Everton and Joey Barton even labelled Harrison as ‘dreadful’.
Harrison now faces a make or break moment at Everton as they look for a new manager. But it could be one that Harrison may have heard of.
Everton considering former Leeds United manager target Paulo Fonseca
Journalist Alan Myers has given some insight on who Everton might turn to after sacking Dyche. And one manager who the Toffees are considering is Portuguese boss Paulo Fonseca, who was actually interviewed by Leeds United before the club sacked Marcelo Bielsa in 2022.
Myers told Sky Sports: “Paulo Fonseca is also a name that has been mentioned, he was manager at Roma when the Friedkins took over the Serie A club.”
In 2023, Fonseca told Portuguese outlet Record that he held talks with Victor Orta over the Leeds job, with Orta later confirming that he spoke to Fonseca too. Fonseca said: “We didn’t talk much about the project itself. It was a quick meeting. He [Orta] talked a lot about the club, the infrastructure, the culture of the club and the city. It was more about that.”
What next for Jack Harrison at Everton?
A manager change may well see Harrison stay at Everton for the remainder of the season, as whoever comes in will want to get their own verdict on every player, and likely not make any drastic changes in what is left of the January window.
But it’s recently been reported that Everton want to sign Jaden Philogene on loan from Aston Villa, which would inevitably push the misfiring Harrison further down the pecking order at Goodison Park.
Whether that move is still in the pipelines given Dyche’s exit remains to be seen. Harrison’s season seems to be up in the air right now but one thing is clear, and that’s that he needs to impress with whoever he ends up playing for in the second half of the season.
