Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison suffers new Everton blow as Fabrizio Romano delivers update

Jack Harrison is having it tough at Everton after rejoining The Toffees on a second season-long loan from Leeds United in the summer, with fans growing impatient.

The 28-year-old was one of eight players to use Victor Orta’s loan relegation clause in the summer of 2023 after Leeds were sent to the Championship. Two saw that loan become active again last summer.

Harrison was one, Rasmus Kristensen the other. The Dane joined Robin Koch’s Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the summer, with Kristensen set to join Frankfurt permanently as he impresses.

Harrison meanwhile, has gone back to Everton. It comes after having a hand in seven goals in 33 games during 2023-24, but Harrison is struggling to find his best form this time around under Sean Dyche.

Fabrizio Romano news is bad news for Jack Harrison at Everton

Indeed, Harrison is now without a goal since February 2024 and has failed to even lay on an assist this season. That is despite continuing to start games under Dyche, who himself is coming under pressure.

Everton fans were desperate for Harrison to be recalled after his miss against Chelsea, but reports say that Leeds do not have an option to recall Harrison. However, Everton can always just cancel his loan spell.

Now, Fabrizio Romano says Everton are in permanent talks to sign Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene. With Jasper Lindstrom, Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil, Harrison may have more competition to play.

“Everton have opened talks to sign Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa. Understand it could be a permanent move rather than loan, Everton trying to make it happen with this formula. Negotiations underway.”

What Everton’s £400m takeover will mean for Jack Harrison

While Harrison was one of eight players to jump ship, he did have more credit in the bank than any of the seven others given he was part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side that got Leeds back into the Premier League.

Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that Everton will have bigger fish to fry than Harrison after Everton completed a £400m takeover with The Friedkin Group, who also own Italian giants Roma, now in control.

Bailey suggests that if Leeds are promoted, Harrison could return to Elland Road in a similar manner to that of Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson. Unlikely, but with a contract until 2028, anything is possible.
