Mateo Joseph was a talking point for some weeks this summer. In the end, he left Leeds United to join La Liga side RCD Mallorca on loan.
It looked inevitable that Mateo Joseph would leave Leeds United this summer. But the Spanish U21s striker certainly didn’t go about it in the right way.
Joseph handed in a transfer request at Leeds United after refusing to join the squad in their pre-season tour of Germany.
Daniel Farke remained calm on the matter, at least publicly, and Joseph eventually sealed a loan move to RCD Mallorca in La Liga, on a season-long loan.

Mateo Joseph’s results for RCD Mallorca so far
So far, Joseph’s Mallorca have played the two giants of Spanish football in Barcelona and Real Madrid. They were thumped 3-0 by Barcelona, then drawing with Celta Vigo before losing 2-1 away at Real Madrid in their last outing.
Joseph, 21, has started the last two games, having come on at half-time against Barcelona. But he’s yet to score and he’s yet to really impress either, with plenty of Mallorca fans sharing a rather underwhelming review of the Leeds United loan man’s performances so far.

RCD Mallorca fans unimpressed with Leeds United loan man Mateo Joseph
This summer, Mallorca lost striker Cyle Larin who joined Feyenoord on loan. Last season, the Canadian striker scored seven in 32 La Liga games for Mallorca.
One fan wrote: “The weakest part of the team. We’ve come from several seasons being one of the teams that score the least. I hope Mateo Joseph breaks it but I don’t see him improving Larin’s numbers.”
A similar comment read: “They brought in Mateo Joseph for Larin. For me, it’s an irresponsibility not to have properly reinforced that front line.”
Another Mallorca fan questioned the club’s current striking options with Mallorca scoring just two in their opening three La Liga matches. “For me, it’s missing an end… seeing the performance of Mateo Joseph,” wrote another.
This fan added: “I don’t know if Mateo Joseph will deliver the numbers.”
Meanwhile, one Mallorca fan suggested that Joseph flourishes with the Spanish U21s because he has quality players around him. They wrote: “I pointed out Mateo Joseph a while ago because the kid, for his football, needs talented players behind him.
“In the national team, when Jesús, Raúl Moro, Jauregizar, Moleiro, etc. were playing, that’s when he started to make an impact up top.”
Mallorca play Espanyol later in the month whilst Leeds United return to action against Fulham.
