Luke Humphries is revelling in the delight of winning the PDC World Darts Championship but he says his “dream” would come true – if Leeds United secure an instant return to the Premier League.
Humphries, the world’s new no.1, broke the heart of 16-year-old Manchester United fan Luke Littler at the Ally Pally on Wednesday night to win the Championship final. A fourth title for Humphries in a year.
It comes after Humphries secured the World Grand Prix, the Players Championship Finals and the Grand Slam of Darts. He came from 4-2 down against Littler, to go and win 7-4 in front of an excited crowd.
A massive Leeds fan, Humphries recently visited Thorp Arch and posed for photos. Following his win last night, Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling responded to his victory – posting messages on their Instagram.
Speaking to TalkSPORT this morning though, Humphries made it clear that his dream is not to win the PDC World Darts Championship final – but for Leeds to regain promotion back to the Premier League.
“Definitely. It would be a dream. But that’s the great thing about the Championship, it’s an incredibly tough league to get out of. Leeds were in it for 15 years before we broke back into the Premier League.
“That would be a dream but there is a lot of good teams in the Championship and it’s going to be really, really tough. I think it’s going to go down to the wire,” Humphries said, in an interview with TalkSPORT.

So, can Leeds help Humphries realise his dream? Well, Leeds have lost three of the last six and it has seen us drop to fourth place with Southampton in superb form. But, we are seven points behind Ipswich.
Leeds are easily in the mix for the top two and promotion via the play-offs is still a very real possibility. A couple of decent signings and a run of form in January will give us a good chance of chasing Ipswich.
