It has been a fine week in the Premier League so far at Leeds.
Daniel Farke moved his side out of the relegation zone with a historic 3-1 win over Chelsea, using a new 3-5-2 system which gives Leeds fans belief that this season can be a success.
Now, there has been more good news as the Premier League hand Gabriel Gudmundsson an award – with Luke Ayling reacting to the decision on Instagram.
Premier League name Gabriel Gudmundsson Player of the Matchweek, Luke Ayling responds
Gudmundsson in particular delivered a tremendous performance against Chelsea.
This is difficult: Who is Leeds United’s best signing so far? 🤑
Explain why!
The Sweden international silenced Estevao – who could have been dismissed for a petulant kick on the defender – and even forced Enzo Maresca to withdraw the talented Brazilian at the interval.
That was not all, as Gudmundsson also made two key passes, was victorious in 12 ground duels and won three free-kicks for Leeds to relieve pressure at crucial stages.
After the Premier League revealed on Instagram that the £10m arrival from Lille in July had won the Player of the Matchweek award, Ayling responded by liking the post – as did Joe Rodon.
The comments section was also flooded by fans who claimed that Gudmundsson is the best signing Leeds made all summer, which is currently pretty hard to argue with.
In fact, a story from the Guardian even said that Leeds consider only Gudmundsson and Sean Longstaff as success stories of all their ten summer signings so far.
Daniel Farke shows the importance of resting his Leeds United squad
Gudmundsson was left out of the starting XI for the 3-2 defeat at Manchester City, with James Justin taking his place on the left.
Which player would you be happy for Leeds to sell in January to fund their transfer business? Let us know in the comments… 🤔💰
The likes of Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto are struggling to force their way into Farke's plans.
That was mainly due to the fact the Swede had almost played every single minute in the Premier League this season, and needed a rest.
To deliver such a strong display against Chelsea after getting that rest shows exactly how important it is for Farke to keep his side fresh and rotate often, rather than be wedded to the same group of players as has been a concerning theme throughout this season.
Farke hinted Ao Tanaka might be next to be rested having started against both Manchester City and Chelsea, so keep an eye out for a potential change in midfield against Liverpool.
