Local media says £5m Leeds United loanee has ‘not been the same’ since international break, he’s struggling

Leeds United’s five loanees have had a mixed time of it during the opening two months of the season.

Jack Harrison, Rasmus Kristensen, Darko Gyabi, Sam Greenwood and Sonny Perkins are all currently plying their trades out on loan, with varying degrees of success.

Harrison has only just started to find form in his second spell at Everton thanks to a run of form that has seen them pick up eight points from four matches, though he hasn’t scored since February.

Meanwhile, Kristensen is already wanted permanently by Eintracht Frankfurt, having played almost every minute of every game in all competitions.

Greenwood, Gyabi and Perkins will all be learning a lot at struggling EFL clubs this season, with the former netting his first league goal for Preston North End on Tuesday.

Plymouth media’s worrying Darko Gyabi verdict

Gyabi‘s Plymouth Argyle were in action away at Millwall on Wednesday night as their worrying run of away form continued with a 1-0 defeat.

Wayne Rooney’s side have lost five of their six matches without scoring on the road this season, with their next away game actually coming at Elland Road next weekend, which Gyabi will be ineligible for.

Gyabi had been in some good form for Argyle prior to the international break earlier this month, earning some big praise from his manager Rooney.

However, since returning from representing England U20s, the Plymouth Herald claim Gyabi simply hasn’t been the same player in either of the last two matches.

Having lost 5-0 at Cardiff City on Saturday, Plymouth were again on the end of a defeat at the Den, with Gyabi receiving a rating of just 5/10 for another disappointing display.

They wrote: “Darko Gyabi 5 – Was playing at a high level before the recent international break but has not been the same forceful presence in midfield in the two matches since then.

“Would have hoped for better against Millwall because he was born in south-east London and spent three years in the Lions’ academy.”

Gyabi stats in Plymouth defeat to Millwall

According to the statistics, Gyabi’s performance wasn’t actually as bad as Plymouth’s local media have suggested, though clearly they don’t tell the full story.

StatGyabi
Touches45
Passes29/35 (83%)
Long balls(succ.)3(2)
Dribbles(succ.)4(2)
Ground duels (won)7(5)

Perhaps the most worrying part of Gyabi’s display is that he only touched the ball 45 times in a game Plymouth had 61 per cent of the possession in.

In contrast, his midfield partner Adam Randell had 30 more with 75, which saw him receive a slightly higher rating than Gyabi from Argyle’s local media.

The £5m man must find ways he can impact games more if he wants to take the next step in his development.
