Former Millwall manager Gary Rowett has delivered his verdict on Leeds United’s Championship promotion chances.
The Whites currently sit inside the automatic promotion places after making it back-to-back wins since the international break with a 2-1 victory over Watford.
Goals from Largie Ramazani and Brenden Aaronson had seen Leeds race into a two-goal lead on Tuesday night, with it looking like an extremely comfortable night was on the cards to backup the impressive win against Sheffield United.
However, Watford refused to back down and made it difficult for Leeds in the second half, with Tom Clevelery suggesting his side deserved more from the game.
The second half introductions of both Dan James and Mateo Joseph seemed to tilt the game back in Leeds’ favour, helping them hold on for the win.

Rowett makes Leeds promotion prediction
Prior to the international break when Manor Solomon and Dan James were out injured, Daniel Farke didn’t really have much to bring off the bench without having an adverse effect on the team.
That was reflected in particular during the away match at Norwich City, when Farke brought both Ramazani and Wilfried Gnonto off some time before the end, which completely killed Leeds’ momentum.
However, against both Sheffield United and Watford, Farke has had the luxury of bringing Solomon, James and Joseph onto the field in the second half, which significantly helped Leeds’ ability to see out the wins.
Speaking on Sky Sports before Tuesday’s win, Rowett believes that sort of strength in depth is something no other Championship club possesses, which is why he expects Leeds to go up.
He said: “I think when you look at their front eight, when you are at the game and you are looking at the 70th minute, they are bringing on, this is the Championship we are talking about, they are bringing on Dan James, Mateo Joseph, Solomon, Bamford as well.
“They brought Bamford on in the 90th minute just to get him on the pitch. And if you look at that as a front eight, that is an eight that no other team in the division…
“I think Sheffield United are as close as any team to them, but on the day, it was at Elland Road, I think which flavours a little bit, but actually they were very, very good. And I would expect them to go up.”

Leeds spreading goals across attacking options
Rowett is absolutely right when it comes to Leeds’ attacking options and it is up to Farke to ensure he gets the best out of them.
At this stage, it certainly looks as though he is doing exactly that, with goals and assists spread incredibly evenly across all of them.
