‘Let’s wait’: Leeds attacker unsure on future, doesn’t rule out move

Leeds United attacker Rodrigo Moreno has once again admitted he does not know what the future holds this summer.

The 32-year-old was speaking in an interview with La Razon following his return to the Spanish setup ahead of the Nations League finals, where he discussed the potential of a Leeds exit.

Rodrigo netted 13 goals in the Premier League last season and is one of several expected to move on this summer after Leeds’ relegation last season.

It has been reported Rodrigo has a release clause of just £3.5 million with only 12 months left to run on his current contract at Elland Road.

Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for the striker, but a return to Spain feels more probable, with Real Madrid a potential destination.

Rodrigo remains coy on Leeds future

Since joining up for international duty, Rodrigo has now spoken twice on his future at Leeds and on each occasion, has remained respectful towards the club.

He says a move away is not something he has thought about too much yet, and at this stage, the only thing he knows is when he is returning for pre-season training.

He said: “I don’t know anything right now, the only thing I know is that on July 3rd I have to return to pre-season with Leeds.

“I imagine that now that I’m with the national team they might leave me until the 7th, although I haven’t wanted to call them either.

“I’m very focused here, for me it’s a great joy to be here after the season I had, it’s an important recognition and I would really like to take advantage of this opportunity, as I have always tried to do in the national team because that’s how I feel and it’s a pride to be here among the best.

“Let’s wait and see what happens, let’s focus now here, which is what matters most to me and then rest a bit, it’s been a tough season and we will see.”

There won’t be many supporters who begrudge Rodrigo of a move this summer; he was one of a handful who performed to a good level and really put the effort in.

Playing in the Championship would almost certainly eliminate anymore chances of him playing for Spain, and given he has only just returned to the squad after nearly two years out, he won’t want to pass up that opportunity.
