Rodrigo Moreno has discussed his future at Leeds United and the chance to move to Real Madrid this summer in a press conference while on Spain duty – underlining that he is unsure what is going to happen next, after relegation.
Rodrigo, 32, finished the season as the club’s top scorer with an impressive 15 goals last season. He starred for us in a season in which most things went wrong. Ironically, it was his worst of three seasons at Leeds, but our worst.
The striker has been recalled to Spain’s squad for this summer’s UEFA Nations League fixtures, in which Rodrigo will battle with Willy Gnonto’s Italy to win the tournament. But following that, Rodrigo’s future is a questionable one.
He is more than likely to go, his deal ends next summer and he is a player that has proven he is of Premier League standard. Some reports even suggest that there is Premier League interest in the ex-Valencia and Benfica striker.
Last week, Spanish site COPE reported that Real Madrid are looking at Rodrigo – as they look to replace Mariano Diaz and Karim Benzema. The report claims a deal can be done for £3m. Now, Rodrigo has discussed his future.
“I live in the real world, I have Instagram and friends who read the newspapers. I can’t tell you much beyond what we all know because I don’t know. I’m very focused on the National Team right now and on the next games.
“Then, I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen. I have a contract with Leeds and that has to be respected,” Leeds striker Rodrigo said in a press conference over the weekend, as quoted by Spanish newspaper Marca.

Rodrigo will leave Leeds this summer. It is a shame but he is a player that deserves to be in the top tier in one of Europe’s top-five leagues. He and his family are likely to want a return to Spain. A move to Madrid would be huge.
Indeed, Rodrigo is a striker that is certainly worthy of playing for a mid-table Spanish side. One that is pushing for Europe and even, maybe, one that has qualified for the lower European competitions. Betis, Sevilla, Sociedad etc.
But Madrid? Rodrigo is not that standard, unless the Spanish giants are looking at the Spain star as a replacement for the main striker – perhaps, Harry Kane? Time will tell. But, Rodrigo has a big decision to make this summer.
