Leeds will have to pay £7m fee to sign ‘special’ player in January, Gary McAllister is a big fan

Ryan Kent is back on Leeds United’s radar ahead of the January window with the winger keen to leave new side Fenerbahce – and the Whites will have to pay £7m to land the English attacker.

Kent has struggled since his move to Fenerbahce in the summer. He joined the Turkish club after five years at Rangers, where he worked under Leeds legend Gary McAllister, Steven Gerrard’s assistant.

At his best, McAllister said he deserved an England call-up. Starring in the Europa League as Rangers reached the final in 2021, Owen Hargreaves described Kent as “special”, likening him to Franck Ribery.

But since his move to Fener in the summer, he has managed just seven starts in his 14 appearances. Just one goal, two assists. TeamTalk say Leeds, Rangers and Bournemouth are all interested in Kent.

A report from Turkish site Miliyet says that Paul Heckingbottom wants a reunion with Kent at Sheffield United having worked with him at Barnsley. Now, Fanatik say Fenerbahce rate Kent at a fee of £7m.

Leeds do not need Kent, as things stand. Leeds boast five wingers – Dan James and Cree Summerville are on fire, with Willy Gnonto, Jaidon Anthony and Ian Poveda fighting for a place in the starting eleven.

However, Gnonto is being linked with the exit door, Anthony is only on loan and Poveda may feel that he needs a loan exit in January – as he struggles for game time. We may need to sign a winger in January.

Kent is certainly a player that has shown Premier League quality and at £7m, he is still on the cheap side ahead of the January window. But Leeds should only move for him if they cash in on the likes of Gnonto.
