Leeds wanted £7m deal for star in summer, now has 11 goals and assists for Championship club

A whole host of attacking stars were linked with a Leeds United move last summer and one of those was West Brom star Grady Diangana – with the Whites eyeing a potential £7m move for the winger.

The 25-year-old’s long-term future remains in doubt with the winger about to enter the last 12 months of his deal at The Hawthorns. It comes after a tricky couple of seasons, but he’s finding his form again.

Last summer, Leeds were considering a £7m move for Diangana – with Burnley, Leicester and Saudi Arabian clubs also interested. But he remained at West Brom and is finally finding his feet once again.

He scored on Wednesday night, as West Brom drew with QPR 2-2 – a game in which they really should have lost. The referee missed a blatant goalline handball by defender Cedric Kipre, at Loftus Road.

But Diangana continues to get his name on the score sheet and create goals for Carlos Corberan’s side. He now has seven goals and four assists for the Baggies in 26 appearances during the 23-24 season.

Leeds could have done with a player of that quality. Cree Summerville and Dan James have been super, but other than a few glimpses – Willy Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony haven’t matched the first-choice duo.

At a bargain £7m, Leeds might have picked up a bargain in Diangana – a player that impressed Robert Snodgrass while he was at West Ham in 2018. He would have given Leeds another attacking dimension.

Instead, he continues to do the business for the Baggies as they look to retain a play-off spot over the next 10 league games. It could be that we wend up facing him in the play-offs at the end of the season.
