Leeds United were in talks to sign 25-year-old on deadline day, he’s yet to score or assist for new club

Leeds United were reportedly in talks with AS Roma over a deal for Ola Solbakken in the summer.

With the futures of both Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto up in the air on deadline day, Leeds were in the market for wingers, with Solbakken being one of them.

As per the Daily Mail, Leeds held talks with Roma regarding a potential transfer for the 25-year-old, who instead opted for a move to Greek side Olympiacos.

While managing to keep Gnonto, Leeds ended up losing Sinisterra after the 11pm deadline on September 1, with Jaidon Anthony coming the other way in a loan swap with Bournemouth.

Although Anthony hasn’t started too many matches since, on the evidence of the season so far, it would appear Leeds got a better deal in signing him, than Solbakken.

Leeds seemingly dodged a bullet with Solbakken

Solbakken made a season-long-loan switch to Olympiacos after a difficult first few months at Roma, having only joined them on a free transfer in January.

The Norway international has found it equally tough in Greece, though, having made eight appearances, with only four of those coming from the start.

In those matches Solbakken is still yet to get off the mark with either a goal or assist, which is a disappointing return for someone in his position and at a side fighting for the title.

Thankfully Daniel Farke has four wingers at his disposal who are all capable of contributing with goals and assists, making it look as though Leeds have actually dodged a bullet by not signing him.

First choice wide pairing Crysencio Summerville and Dan James already have 19 goal contributions between them, while Gnonto and Anthony have also chipped in occasionally too.
