It is fair to say that most players in this Leeds United side are enjoying one of the seasons of their career under Daniel Farke – but one player in excellent form is “disappointed” with his performances.
Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Junior Firpo, Ao Tanaka, Dan James and Joel Piroe are arguably playing the best they ever have, producing a body of work over the season that is the best campaign of their careers.
With eight games to go, Leeds will be relying on their in-form players to push them towards the top two. Daniel Farke says it will be “happy days” if Leeds win 16 points from the next possible 24 come May.
Joe Rothwell will play a key role in that. The on-loan midfielder was not at his best against QPR but the game prior to that, he excelled as Leeds beat Millwall at Elland Road and he is sure to start on Saturday.
Joe Rothwell is firing for Leeds, but midfielder is “disappointed”
The set-piece specialist has been on fire. Most recently, coming off to provide the difference in wins against Sheffield United and Sunderland – laying on two assists to beat Sunderland at Elland Road.
Rothwell has four assists for Leeds, but is yet to score and discussing his own form with Leeds Live, Rothwell admitted he is “disappointed” that he has not been able to score or lay on more assists.
“I’ve been a bit disappointed in myself with the numbers that I’ve produced, not just in goals but in terms of assists as well. So it’s something that by the end of the season that I would like to add to,” he said.
“Especially trying to get in with a few goals. There’s no one more disappointed than myself that I’ve not been able to add the goals yet. But, still eight games to go and hopefully, I can hopefully get a couple.”
Will Joe Rothwell sign permanently for Leeds this summer?
Initial reports said Bournemouth want a £7.5m fee for Rothwell. The midfielder will enter the final year of his contract at The Vitality Stadium, and Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News he could go for less.
Rothwell was asked about his future this week, and kept the door open over a permanent Leeds move without saying he would like to join. The midfielder merely stated it was down to his agent and Leeds.
But the question is, do Leeds want to sign Rothwell if promoted? Can Leeds do better than a 30-year-old that has starred in the Championship but has less than 20 Premier League starts to his name?
