It’s a major announcement in the international world as Japan have become the first team to qualify for the 2026 competition in the USA.
During the performance, Tanaka was labelled the ‘MVP’ proving that the midfielder will have crucial involvement on the World’s biggest stage.
The hope is that he will be playing for Leeds whilst the competition is taking place and that seems most likely at the moment.
Well, Tanaka has taken to Instagram to sum up his feelings as he enjoys a brilliant time away from Leeds with the 26-year-old writing: “We passed through.”

Tanaka’s future should be monitored closely at Leeds
It’s become apparent that Tanaka is happy at Leeds, but a question hasn’t been raised regarding the midfielder’s future.
This is mentioned as Tanaka’s performances have stood out in what could be a potential promotion-winning side, and now adding in his performance for Japan, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if clubs began to circle.
Tanaka wants the Premier League challenge with Leeds but if Farke’s side stumbles at the final hurdle again it could sway Tanaka to leave this summer.
It’s very unlikely Tanaka even thinks about leaving after just one season, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
