Take a look at everything you need to know about the Leeds United squad numbers for the 2024/25 season as well as the history of each kit.

Over their long history, Leeds United have seen some of their greatest-ever players pull on some of their most famous kits.

With a new Championship campaign ahead, Daniel Farke will be hopeful that some of his current squad can make their way onto that list.

Many superstars at Elland Road can become recognised simply by the number they wore on the back of their shirts.

So with that said, here’s a look at everything you need to know about Leeds United’s squad number history and the options taken for the 2024/25 campaign.

1 – Illan Meslier

Previously worn by: Rob Green, Paddy Kenny, Paul Robinson, Nigel Martyn, David Harvey.

The current Leeds number one is Illan Meslier, with the goalkeeper holding that squad number ever since the 2019/20 season.

Previously worn by: Luke Ayling, Sam Byram, Gary Kelly, Trevor Cherry.

Heading into this summer, the number two shirt is available after long-time servant Luke Ayling left Leeds for a new challenge.

3 – Junior Firpo

Previously worn by: Barry Douglas, Sol Bamba, Ian Harte, Eddie Gray, Frank Gray, Trevor Cherry.

Since making his move to Elland Road in 2021/22, Junior Firpo took the number three kit number and has kept hold of it ever since.

4 – Ethan Ampadu

Previously worn by: Adam Forshaw, Jonathan Douglas, Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer, Paul Madeley, Don Revie.

Following on from the exit of Adam Forshaw, Ethan Ampadu took the number four shirt upon his arrival at Leeds in 2023.

5 – Charlie Cresswell

Previously worn by: Robin Koch, Ben White, Lucas Radebe, Frank Gray, Trevor Cherry.

Leeds youngster Charlie Cresswell took the number five shirt when he became part of the senior team in 2023/24.

6 – Liam Cooper

Previously worn by: Jonathan Woodgate, Eddie Gray, Keith Parkinson, Norman Hunter, Frank Gray.

For nine years, Leeds club captain Liam Cooper has been the owner of the number six shirt as part of the backline.

7 – Joel Piroe

Previously worn by: Kemar Roofe, Robbie Keane, Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer, Billy Bremner.

Leeds forward Joel Piroe currently has the famous number seven shirt, owning it since he joined the club in 2023.

8 – Glen Kamara

Previously worn by: Michael Bridges, Gordon Strachan, Gary Liddell, Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer, Billy Bremner.

Midfielder Glen Kamara currently has the number eight shirt, picking it up in 2023 after his transfer to Leeds.

9 – Patrick Bamford

Previously worn by: Chris Wood, Billy Bremner, Peter Lorimer, Peter Madeley, Allan Clarke.

A stalwart in the side since 2018, Patrick Bamford has been the latest Leeds number nine in a long list of legendary figures in the club’s history.

10 – Crysencio Summerville

Previously worn by: Raphinha, Ezgjan Alioski, Luciano Becchio, Peter Lorimer, Frank Gray, Eddie Gray.

Leeds star Crysencio Summerville is the latest to wear the number ten shirt for The Whites, entering a list of legendary players to have done so.

The number 11 shirt has been absent since an exit for Jack Harrison in 2023, with a player yet to take the chance to land it.

This summer, the number 12 shirt will be free to a new player, with loanee Jaidon Anthony the latest to wear it.

Backup goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson currently hold the number 13, which has traditionally been given to shotstoppers at Leeds.

The number 14 is available this summer, with loan star Joe Rodon the last player to feature in it for Leeds.

Following on from Stuart Dallas’ retirement, the number 15 shirt will be a hard one to fill for the next player to pick it.

Sonny Perkins is the latest to wear the number 16 shirt, but his loan switch away from the club means it will be available again this summer.

17 – Jamie Shackleton

Previously worn by: Helder Costa, Michael Brown, Andros Townsend, Jake Livermore.

Leeds academy graduate Jamie Shackleton currently holds the number 17 shirt.

Winger Dan James is the current owner of the number 20 shirt, following his transfer to the club in the 21/22 season.

21 – Pascal Struijk

Previously worn by: Samu Saiz, El-Hadj Diouf, Charlie Taylor.

Since moving into the first team in 2020/21, Pascal Struijk has taken the number 21 shirt at Leeds and made it his own.

Leeds club-record signing Georginio Rutter has possession of the number 24 shirt, which has been his since 2023.

Right-back Sam Byram has held the number 25 shirt in both of his spells at Leeds United so far.

28 – Karl Darlow

Previously worn by: Weston McKennie, Gaetano Berardi, Fabian Delph.

Backup goalkeeper Karl Darlow currently holds the number 28 shirt.

29 – Wilfried Gnonto

Previously worn by: Jean-Kevin Augustin, Rob Hulse, Rio Ferdinand.

Star winger Wilfried Gnonto currently has the number 29 shirt, which he wore during academy games before his quick introduction into the first-team setup.

30 – Joe Gelhardt

Young striker Joe Gelhardt has worn the number 30 since he joined Leeds in 2020/21.

44 – Ilia Gruev

Previously worn by: Mateusz Bogusz, Hugo Diaz, Ross McCormack.

After his transfer to the club in the summer of 2023, Ilia Gruev decided to take the number 44 shirt at Leeds.

49 – Mateo Joseph

Previously worn by: Oliver Casey, Oriol Rey.

Young striker Mateo Joseph currently has the squad number 49.
