Crysencio Summerville has been the star of Leeds United’s season under Daniel Farke.
After talks with his agent and those around him, Summerville decided that staying at Leeds in the summer would be the best decision for his career, and it has very much proven to be.
In the two season prior to this, Summerville was slowly but surely eased into the first team fold at Elland Road. In the 2021/22 campaign he made nine appearances in all competitions, while last season was much more of a breakthrough – with four goals in 28 Premier League matches.
This term, however, he has become the main main and according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, Leeds had high hopes for him all the way back in the summer of 2021 – a year after his arrival from Feyenoord.
Hay has claimed that Leeds opted against firming up interest in signing long-term target Ryan Kent from Rangers, in order to promote Summerville into the first team under Marcelo Bielsa.
Summerville decision proven to be correct
According to the Scottish Sun, Kent was valued at around £15 million by Rangers that summer, and so with all things considered, it is a decision that has proven to be correct.
Leeds are still reported to be admirers of Kent now with an exit from Fenerbahce looking likely this month, despite having only joined them on a free transfer in the summer.
Kent has barely played in Turkey and it perhaps speaks volumes that he was unable to secure a move to a Premier League side after leaving Rangers given previous speculation.
Playing in predominantly the English Championship and Scottish Premiership, Kent has never hit double figures for goals across a single season in his career. He is now 27.
At 22, Summerville already has 12 goals in 23 matches this term which would suggest Leeds placing faith in his development, rather than signing Kent, has more than proven to be the right one.
