Leeds United manager Daniel Farke spoke to the press on Friday afternoon and inevitably, Jack Harrison was a subject of conversation.

Jack Harrison has returned to Leeds United following two seasons on loan at Everton. And right from the get-go, when Leeds United played Manchester United in a pre-season friendly, it was clear that Leeds United supporters were still divided over Harrison returning to the club.

In that game against Manchester United, Leeds United fans booed Harrison from the stands. The winger actually started the game to everyone’s surprise, and he’s featured regularly throughout the summer as well.

But in the last pre-season friendly against AC Milan, Leeds United supporters were heard booing Harrison once again. On Monday, Leeds played Everton at Elland Road in their opening game of the season, and it is a sentimental one for Harrison who previously wanted to stay at Everton.

Now back at Leeds, it appears as though Daniel Farke has plans for the 28-year-old winger.

Daniel Farke says the Leeds United players have welcomed Jack Harrison back

Speaking on Friday afternoon, Farke was asked about Leeds fans mixed feelings towards Harrison. Farke went on to explain that Harrison has returned to Leeds with a good attitude and insisting that he can win back the support of fans similarly to how Brenden Aaronson did last season.

Farke also went on to confirm that the Leeds United players and staff have taken to Harrison’s good attitude and work rate this summer. Farke explained: “Jack is a proven Premier League player. He’s at a good age, a top character, and hard working always. Mixed reactions are also normal once a player was away on loan. Similar situation with Brenden Aaronson. Everyone was a bit in doubt when he came back and he has proven that he wants to work his socks off for this club and he has won all our supporters back.”

The Leeds boss went on to add: “I can confirm that Jack has already won the staff and all the players back who have followed us during pre-season, because his behaviour was top class. He’s working very hard and is an unbelievably nice teammate. Right now it’s up to him, with good performances, with hard work, also to win the trust of our supporters back.”

Jack Harrison’s reaction to Leeds United boos says it all

Leeds United drew 1-1 with Milan last week. It was a decent performance to see out the summer and set the Whites up for their tough opener against Everton, and it was also a run-out for Harrison in the second half of the game. As the jeers came from the masses of Leeds fans who made the trip to Ireland, it was clear to see how Harrison reacted to Leeds fans booing him.

There were multiple reports that Harrison took the jeers on the chin, kept his head down, and worked hard on the pitch, and that reaction mirrors what Farke has said about his attitude behind the scenes at Thorp Arch this summer.

For Harrison, it can really only go up from here. If he simply works hard when called upon, and can even chip in with a few goals and assists which Leeds United fans know he can do, then he may quickly be welcomed back among the supporters.

Leeds United’s game against Everton kicks off at 8pm on Monday night and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
