Leeds United now in ‘pole position’ to complete signing of 26-year-old

Transfer links have so far been few and far between for Leeds United during the January transfer window.

Daniel Farke has already admitted that there are some positions which need strengthening this month, but with just two weeks to go, movement has so far been slow.

Both full-back positions are in need of additions, while another creative attacker would not go amiss. A new centre-back could also be required if Charlie Cresswell departs Elland Road.

Connor Roberts, Ben Johnson, David Brooks and Neco Williams are among the players linked, but it would appear there is also a goalkeeper genuinely on Leeds’ radar as well.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Leeds are in ‘pole position’ to sign Spezia shotstopper Bartlomiej Dragowski, but will only make their move if Illan Meslier is sold.

Leeds in pole position for Dragowski

It was reported last week that Leeds will make a bid for Dragowski if Meslier departs, with Championship rivals Hull City also said to be keen, having also beaten the Whites to Fabio Carvalho.

However, the Tigers have been put off by Dragowski’s current wages at Spezia, which now means Leeds are in pole position to complete a deal should they wish to do so.

With that all that said, it appears highly unlikely Leeds will sell Meslier before the end of the window, given how highly manager Daniel Farke rates him. He believes he is the best in the Championship.

Leeds had been expecting to sell Meslier in the summer amid interest from Celta Vigo, with Angus Kinnear even claiming a bid in excess of £20 million was rejected.

Farke is reluctant to lose anyone else from his squad and with Meslier very clearly Leeds’ number one, a change between the sticks is highly unlikely at this stage of the season.
