Leeds United need to be watching 22-year-old midfielder who is about to play for his country this week

The international break provides many at Leeds United the chance to rest and reset.

Leeds face their busiest period of the season once the break is over, with the Christmas calendar not too far around the corner.

What that also means is that clubs will now also already be laying the groundwork ahead of the January transfer window, which opens in just a month and a half.

As such, Leeds can take this opportunity over the next two weeks to perhaps take a look at some potential targets in action for their respective countries.

There is one name who particularly stands out from the list of failed summer moves and that is Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, who Leeds had a bid of £10 million rejected for.

Leeds need to keep an eye on O’Riley over international break

O’Riley was a late call-up to the Denmark squad as they look to seal their passage to next summer’s EUROs. They currently sit top of their group on 19 points.

The 22-year-old is yet to make his debut for his country but in the absence of Christian Eriksen, could well be handed his opportunity over the next couple of weeks thanks to his excellent form at club level.

O’Riley has six goals and five assists in 12 league matches for Celtic this season, which has caught the attention of a number of Premier League sides.

Having today revealed he is now ready to take the next step in his career, clubs will now be on red alert. Leeds should be no different after their failed interest in the summer.

However, with Celtic likely to win another Scottish Premiership title, it is hard to see him leaving in January. He also only just signed a new deal.

Leeds need to continue keeping their eye on how he progresses over the course of the season and hope they get promoted before making another move next summer.
