Leeds United must hijack £19m deal with club president and agent in a stand-off

The future of one Leeds United target is hanging in the balance after a bizarre standoff between the player’s agent and his current club president.

Leeds United’s desire to strengthen their attacking options is well-known as Daniel Farke looks to prevent a repeat of the turgid performance against Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin embodied Leeds’ struggles in attack as he missed one particularly glaring opportunity to win the cup tie, but the Whites’ front line lacked cutting edge across the board.

With the 2025 summer transfer window set to close in a matter of days, Leeds have now been linked with a move for Aston Villa forward Emi Buendia as they look to bolster their toothless front line.

Christantus Uche is another player who has been linked with a move to Leeds in recent days. Now, he could be back on the market as his move to a Premier League rival appears to be stalling.

Leeds United target sees Premier League move stalling

Although Leeds are one of the clubs credited with an interest in Uche, Wolves appeared to be his most likely destination as Getafe look to offload him amid FFP concerns.

However, a report in Diario AS has suggested that Uche is dragging his feet over the move, as he may be forced to take a pay cut to complete the move.

Uche believes that another year of strong performances with Getafe could increase his value further, but the club remains keen to take the 22 million euros [£19 million] which is on offer.

The tension over the deal was ramped up by a bizarre scene outside Getafe’s stadium earlier today (27th August), as the club’s president, Angel Torres, denied speaking to Uche’s agent about the deal before stating: “The club needs him to leave, and if that’s the case, then he’ll leave.”

However, in a video captured by El Chiringuito TV, Uche’s agent followed the President out of the stadium. When it was pointed out to him that the President had denied their meeting, he joked, “Okay, well, maybe he has spoken to someone else who looks like me.”

Getafe star sends social media message

As things stand, Uche and Getafe appear locked in an unusual stalemate, with the club desperate to offload their star man, and the player desperate to stay put.

Whilst Leeds continue to be linked with attacking options, such as Buendia and Strasbourg forward Dilane Bakwa, they are likely to be keeping a close eye on developments related to Uche, in case an opportunity presents itself.

Uche is a talented forward who has started the season in strong form with Getafe, scoring a goal and providing an assist in their first game of the season.

The talented forward would also be a bargain buy, given Getafe’s perilous financial situation. Leeds’ cup exit at the hands of the Owls shows the Whites need more in attack. They should attempt to seize the opportunity to snap up Uche while his move to Wolves is stalling.
