Paul Brown says that Leeds United have been briefing the media over their intention to sue Everton after the Toffees were found guilty of breaching Financial Fairplay and handed a 10-point deduction.
Jack Harrison‘s Everton were given a 10-point penalty last week as they were found to have fallen short of Profit and Sustainability Rules. Clubs are allowed to make a loss of £105m a season. Everton failed.
They lost £124.5m during the 2021-22 season. The Mail said senior figures between Leeds, Leicester and Burnley met following the guilty verdict, to discuss whether they would persist with earlier threats.
It is said Leeds, Leicester and Burnley were preparing to sue Everton for £300m – earning each club an even split of £100m. The three clubs feel Everton gained an unfair advantage in avoiding relegation.
It is believed the aggrieved trio will push through with their case, having warned Everton’s prospective new owners 777 Partners. Brown told Give Me Sport that Leeds have briefed media of our intentions.
“This has been something that’s been rumbling in the background for a long time now. Those clubs have been briefing the media about their intention to do this and I’m told they will go through with the threat.
“There was a verdict in a separate hearing, confirming they have a potential claim. That claim will now be heard. The Independent Commission found they gained a sporting advantage from overspending.”

It is interesting to know both when this plan of action will be put into place, and whether Leeds will have a chance of raking in some cash from Everton. Simon Jordan says he does not believe it would go far.
But if the Commission is finding that Everton gained a sporting advantage from their overspending, which would have seen them benefit in the 2022-23 season, then surely Leeds have a decent chance.
