Leeds United fans have a lot to say about Wilfried Gnonto after 2-2 draw vs QPR

There was little for Leeds United fans to cheer in their side’s 2-2 draw against QPR on Saturday. Perhaps barring the cameo of Wilfried Gnonto.

Leeds United go into the international break pretty much guaranteed 1st place in the Championship table, unless Sheffield United can beat Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, and do so by 28 goals.

Three points separate the two after Leeds’ 2-2 draw against QPR in West London, though Leeds have a 27 goal advantage on the Blades.

Nonetheless, Daniel Farke will feel it’s yet more points dropped for his Leeds side who’ve now won just one of their last four in the league.

Leeds United fans laud Wilfried Gnonto after QPR

As soon as he entered the pitch, Leeds United looked a world better. Wilfried Gnonto replaced Brenden Aaronson, much to the delight of Leeds fans, with Gnonto playing a crucial role in the build up to the equaliser.

“Gnonto needs start from now on,” said one Leeds fan on social media, summarising how lot of Whites supporters felt during the game.

“Gnonto makes such a difference on the pitch!” said another. “He needs to start rather than just getting 10 mins every game.”

And many believe that Gnonto is the far better option in that no.10 role that Aaronson, too. “Gnonto has done more in 10 minutes than Aaronson has done in five games,” said one fan.

A similar comment read: “So so so so so so much better with Gnonto in there,” as well as: “Aaronson I’m sorry but you’ve had enough time. You offer nothing. Keep Gnonto in 10.”

A lengthier comment on the debate read: “Aaronson should never start a game again when Gnonto is capable of doing that. Bring him off the bench. Yeah, Willy might not run around as much like a chicken with his head cut off like Brenden, but he’s a superior talent that can make passes that Aaronson simply can’t.”

How Wilfried Gnonto is reacting to limited game time at Leeds United

So far this season, Gnonto has featured 35 times in the Championship, scoring five and assisting five. But he’s only started 20 games, having not started in the league since December.

Speaking earlier in the year though, Farke said Gnonto isn’t upset about his lack of game time. Instead, he’s keeping his head and working hard.

Farke explained: “I know how desperate the players are to help the team, but what I love about my group is that sometimes the players on the bench celebrate even more than the players on the pitch.

“They are not thinking just about themselves, they are thinking about the group, players like Willy. There comes a moment, and then there is the chance to use that. The spirit and vibe in this group is second to none.”
