Leeds United are a Premier League club again, which is going to see a number of changes made to the playing squad this summer.

How much Leeds have to spend will depend on a number of factors, including potential PSR sales again. However, there are players who also simply won’t make the grade at Premier League level.

A good Championship player and a competent Premier League player don’t always align, with other attributes necessary in the top flight beyond what makes for an effective second tier player.

Leeds also have contracts to sort, as well as players to sell, and players to sign. Although their stance on Daniel Farke’s future has ticked off one aspect to have clarity on, there will also be other more complicated matters to come.

Leeds United 24/25 squad – goal involvements

Five players notched at least nine goals this term, with multiple hitting five-or-more this season. One of them is Brenden Aaronson, but his 11 goal involvements from attacking midfield are not standout numbers for the best and most dominant team in the league.

That is something not lost on Leeds fans, who reacted to those numbers recently on Twitter/X. One said: “46 games in the number 10 role for a team that scored 95 goals and only 11 contributions is frankly disgraceful. Get rid asap.”

Another added: “I don’t get what he brings to the team at all. I find him infuriating during games. But we’ve got 100 points and he’s started nearly every game, so who knows, maybe I’m wrong”

One Leeds fan was fairly to the point with his assessment, he added: “2 assists in 46 games as the chief playmaker. The lad is a horrible footballer, bye.”

Another replied: “Aaronson 11 goal contributions in 3572 minutes. Ramazani 8 goal contributions 782 minutes…”

He contributed to 11.6% of the team’s overall goals this season, which is why so many fans are surprised at the social media post from the club’s official account.

Should Leeds keep, loan, or sell Brenden Aaronson?

Managers like players who are available and dependable, with both of those aspects particularly key feature of Aaronson’s game. His intensity and energy are also vital out of possession.

He is also versatile enough to be deployed as a No.10, or in a box-to-box role, as well as on either flank. That could ensure there is a place in the squad for him — but not in the starting XI.

His ability to take on instructions without fuss is likely to be something most managers are keen to have in their ranks, but his output cannot be overlooked as anything but poor.

That is why they must upgrade with more quality technically, even if the 24-year-old is a useful utility player to have as part of the squad. Keep, but upgrade player who displaces him in the first-team lineup consistently.
