Leeds legend Marcelo Bielsa has been in the headlines lately.

Bielsa called a sudden press conference to address rumours he might quit his role in charge of Uruguay, following a run of just five wins in 18 games – ten of which have seen his side fail to score.

It coincided with Daniel Farke struggling at Elland Road, but the Argentine himself swiftly put the rumours to bed by revealing he intends to manage Uruguay at the World Cup.

Now – however – new reports from Uruguayan news outlet Sport 890 cast fresh doubt over Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds United fans told Marcelo Bielsa could still leave Uruguay

Despite the 70-year-old insisting he will oversee Uruguay at the World Cup, some of his players are allegedly against that idea.

Sport 890 state on X (previously known as Twitter) that “important” players in the Uruguay squad want Bielsa to leave, and have already made it known internally that they will refuse to play if the South American stays.

It therefore remains to be seen how the Uruguayan Football Association handle this delicate situation, with the Leeds legend contracted until the end of the World Cup.

There are – of course – more players than managers within the Uruguay camp, so it would make sense for La Celeste to respond by sacking Bielsa, a far easier task than it would be to replace several key players.

What is Leeds United’s stance on Daniel Farke amid Marcelo Bielsa uncertainty?

It is now entirely possible that Leeds find themselves searching for a new manager at the same time Bielsa becomes unemployed.

Leeds United News understand The 49ers are aware of concerns over Farke from within the fanbase, and are not overjoyed by the situation themselves after six defeats in the last seven Premier League games.

We are told The 49ers have no immediate plans to sack the German, but it feels as if one or two more disappointing results might be enough for the 49-year-old to receive his P45.

With Premier League clubs already eyeing Bielsa – however – it remains to be seen if Leeds manage to negotiate a romantic return to Yorkshire for the man born in Rosario.
