Luca Netz has emerged as a possible transfer target in the summer for Leeds United should the Whites secure promotion – a move that would see Daniel Farke reunite with the Gladbach left-back.
Still only 20, Netz has already clocked up 84 senior club games – playing just 11 times for Hertha Berlin before Gladbach swooped to sign him. He’s had a hand in 15 goals from left-back in those 73 matches.
He played 22 times under Farke last season, who often brought him on as a sub and gave him the odd start. Netz, a 12-time Germany U21 star, even scored two goals and created three more for Farke.
Reports say that Leeds could make a move for Netz in the summer if the club are promoted – but we are not the only English side showing interest. Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United are also supposedly keen.
Leeds of course, will be in the market for a left-back. Junior Firpo has shown moments of quality of late but defensively, he’s not good enough. Phil Hay says he has “issues” that are not being sorted out.
Robin Koch could help Leeds United strike deal for Luca Netz
Tempting Netz to join Leeds will be the issue. He may look at Leeds, and the chance to play with Farke again as tempting – but even if he did want us, the lure of the Premier League’s richest is big opposition.
But Leeds might have a trick up their sleeve, in the form of Robin Koch. TransferMarkt say that Netz and Koch are represented by the same agency in 11wins, a firm that boast just 36 players on their roster.
Leeds of course, have dealt with Koch’s agents a couple of times in the past few years – signing him, loaning him out and then agreeing his permanent exit. That relationship may help smooth a deal over.
It would give Leeds a leg up in terms of pursuing a deal for Netz, and that may aid the smoothness of talks over a deal with his representatives. Could be speculative, but Leeds would be right to use it.
