Robin Koch’s permanent exit has been on the cards ever since the January window re-opened and now, Frankfurt have confirmed the permanent addition of the Leeds United man on a four-year deal.

After three years and just 77 games for Leeds, Koch pretty much ended his Leeds spell last summer when he left Elland Road on loan until the end of the 23-24 season – in the final year of his Leeds deal.

A poor Leeds spell which saw the Germany international injured for much of his first two seasons, and then relegated in the season where he probably showed most consistency. Frankfurt, a different story.

Already, Koch has played 23 times – having a hand in five goals from the middle of his side’s back three. Scoring three goals himself, he has even captained Frankfurt despite only joining back in the summer.

Koch was available on a pre-contract arrangement for non-English sides – including Frankfurt – as he had entered the last six months of his contract. Frankfurt have moved, and landed him for nothing.

Confirmed: Frankfurt sign Robin Koch from Leeds permanently

A move that was always going to happen. But, the reason it has happened as early as January – aside from the fact he was available on a free – was Koch’s impressive form in a Frankfurt shirt this season.

He has been excellent at the back for the German side, who are in the knockout rounds of the Europa Conference League. A mainstay, so much so that he has been wearing the armband for the Germans.

Signing a contract until 2027 is also a sign that Frankfurt are very happy with him and see him as the future of their defence. Now, Koch has ended any ties he has with Leeds – and joined Frankfurt.
