Leeds United agree new player contract, deal set to be announced next week

It has been just over a month since the transfer window came to an end, with Leeds United fans left frustrated that the club failed to meet Daniel Farke’s demands.

Leeds lack the attacking numbers or quality that Farke wanted in his attempts to keep the club in the Premier League. It saw Leeds attempt to sign Facundo Buonanotte and then Harry Wilson from Fulham.

But Leeds failed to get deals over the line. Chelsea hijacked a move for Buonanotte on loan, and then Fulham pulled the plug on a deal to sign Wilson. Marco Silva has since stated his desire to keep Wilson.

For now, Leeds have numbers in attack. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has avoided injury, Noah Okafor is now improving and Brenden Aaronson has been a bit of a surprise, judging by his last three appearances.

Leeds agree a new contract with announcement next week

But one player who could act like a new signing is 16-year-old Harry Gray. The teenage talent made his senior debut last season and became the fifth member of the Gray family to play for Leeds United.

Ahead of the visit of older brother Archie on Saturday, Harry has scored seven goals and laid on two assists in seven U21 games. There have been plenty of clubs watching Gray, including Tottenham.

Man City, Aston Villa and Newcastle, too. But now, Graeme Bailey has informed LeedsUnited.News that Gray has signed professional terms with Leeds and a deal will be announced next week, when he turns 17.

“Leeds are very excited with Harry Gray. His new deal is done. They’ll be announcing that next week. They are very excited by that internally obviously,” Bailey told LeedsUnited.News on Gray’s new deal.

How close is Harry Gray to making his Premier League debut?

Ultimately, Gray is Leeds’ fourth-choice striker. The no.45 is behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha in the pecking order. Ironically, he is the last one of the four that Leeds will want to lose.

Such is his potential. Gray has also been on the bench twice this season, against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup and Wolves in the Premier League. But Farke says he is not rushing Gray’s involvement.

For now, Gray is expected to continue banging in the goals for Scott Gardner’s 21s and will continue to be involved in senior training. Maybe at the end of the season, Gray could get a bit of senior game time.
