Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam claims Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser is currently undergoing a medical at Southampton ahead of a season-long loan – amid reports Leeds and Celtic were interested.
Fraser, 29, managed just eight outings for Eddie Howe’s side last season and has now been relegated to the club’s second string for training. The Mirror claimed (9/7; page 74), Leeds wanted the wide man.

Then, a report from The Northern Echo said that Celtic are also looking at Fraser. Fraser has two years left on his £63k-a-week deal at St. James’, but it looks as if a move to Leeds or Celtic is off the cards.
That is because Sky Sports reporter McAdam says Scotland international Fraser is currently having a medical at Southampton. He is set to join Russell Martin’s men on a loan deal until the end of 23-24.
Newcastle’s Fraser currently undergoing Southampton medical
It would have been a surprise for Leeds to go in for Fraser. Especially, with new reports claiming that Leeds are closing in on a move to sign Genk and Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil before the deadline.
Leeds do have options out wide, though. Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra are set to remain. As is Cree Summerville, though he and Ian Poveda remain injured. Dan James is expected to be first choice.

So, suddenly, Leeds have an abundance of options in the final third. Nadiem Amiri is also expected to be added to that list. But Fraser is set for Southampton, instead of a move to Leeds or Celtic this summer.
Leeds are on the charge in the window, with Paintsil and Amiri possibly following the likes of Joel Piroe, Sam Byram, Karl Darlow, Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon in moving to Elland Road. A big few days ahead.
