The Northern Echo claim Celtic are interested in raiding Newcastle United to sign winger Ryan Fraser, a player that has also been considered by Leeds United this summer. Fraser has been frozen out by Eddie Howe in recent weeks.
Fraser, 29, managed just eight outings for Newcastle last season. He last turned out for the Toon in October 2022, and was of course, absent from the squad on Saturday evening as Howe’s men got off to a start – beating Villa 5-1.
A player with huge Premier League experience; 173 games for Bournemouth and Newcastle over the years. In that time, the 25-time Scotland star has had a hand in 53 goals. Now, he has two years left on his £63k-a-week deal.
According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (9/7; page 74), Fraser is a target for Leeds. Given his contract length, it is likely that the two clubs may look to agree an initial loan. Leeds and Newcastle have of course, done business.
Karl Darlow was brought in from the Toon, and Nick Hammond is currently working as a football advisor while the window is open at Elland Road. The Echo say Celtic and Brendan Rodgers want to take him north of the border.

It was a shock to see Jamie Shackleton used on the right flank on the weekend. Leeds have gone from having an abundance of wingers – to lacking in options. Dan James started on the left, while Ian Poveda used as a no.10.
Luis Sinisterra and Willy Gnonto refused to play. Cree Summerville might be the same, though he is genuinely out of action with an injury. Helder Costa is set to go. Jack Harrison has left the club on loan to join Everton for 2023-24.
Clearly, Leeds are not going to win matches of football with Shackleton playing on the right. He is a solid option, but as a right-back or in midfield. Not out wide. Leeds need signings and Fraser would be a very decent addition.
