Leeds now see offer rejected for 22-year-old, expected to return with fresh bid

Leeds United have seen an offer rejected by Celtic for midfielder Matt O’Riley.

That is according to the Scottish Sun, who report Celtic are ‘bracing themselves’ for further offers for the 22-year-old in the coming days after an opening bid from Leeds was turned down.

It is said that Leeds are currently ‘leading the chase’ to sign O’Riley before Friday’s deadline, though Celtic remain extremely keen on keeping him in Glasgow.

Serie A side Bologna also saw an offer turned down for O’Riley last week with more bids anticipated in the ‘next 72 hours’ as Brendan Rodgers faces a huge fight to keep his star man.

O’Riley has arguably been Celtic’s best player in what has been a stumbling start to the season, scoring two goals and providing one assists in three league matches.

Leeds leading O’Riley chase as offer rejected

News of Leeds’ interest in O’Riley first broke last night with Sky Sports reporting the Whites are set to battle it out with Southampton.

He is the latest of a long list of midfielders linked with a move to Elland Road as Daniel Farke looks to add another number eight and 10.

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara – an old firm rival of O’Riley – is ‘on the brink of a move’ to Leeds, according to the Scottish Sun.

Lewis O’Brien and Ao Tanaka have also been mentioned as potential targets with a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri having fallen through.

O’Riley would represent a significant coup if Leeds were to get it done, but clearly Celtic will not be selling him on the cheap.
