Jamie Shackleton has arguably been one of our best players this season – but the Leeds United star was a target for Rangers in the summer and a move to the Europa League side would’ve been great for him.

Shackleton, 23, returned to Leeds in the summer and it was widely expected he would leave. His agent said in April that he would be looking for a permanent move away from Elland Road for the versatile star.

But, it has worked out that Shackleton has become one of the winners under Farke. Injuries have seen him return to the fold and Shackleton has played a key role in six of our seven games during 2023-24.

It is a surprise, not only given his loan at Millwall was indifferent. But Phil Hay now even claims that a new contract could be on the horizon for Shackleton. But it could have been different in the summer.

Hay also reported that Michael Beale’s Rangers explored a move. Beale has become renowned for using the Championship as a scouting pool – signing the likes of Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell and others.

Rangers would’ve been a great move for Leeds star Shackleton

A Rangers side that will take on Marc Roca’s Real Betis in the Europa League group stage – as well as Sparta Prague and Limassol. So, Europa League football for one of Britain’s biggest clubs. Tempting.

Not only that, but Rangers are lacking in midfield and a bit of energy would have caught the eye of the Ibrox faithful. Kemar Roofe is at Rangers, still. A familiar face. It would have been a brilliant move for him.

Of course, Shackleton will be delighted to have returned to Leeds and become a key player. But, it does remain unclear that when everyone is fit – surely, Shackleton struggles to start for Farke’s Leeds side.
