The Athletic’s Phil Hay claims that Jamie Shackleton could be offered a new deal at Leeds United after his surprise return to the fold at Elland Road this season – after the appointment of boss Daniel Farke.
Shackleton, 23, has featured in six of our seven games this season and is likely to start against Millwall on Sunday – with Junior Firpo and Sam Byram still expected to be sidelined through injury this weekend.
His return to the Leeds side is a bit of a surprise after going on loan to Millwall last season – where he struggled to start matches regularly. His agent said in April that he would try to find him a new club.
A permanent exit was expected. Especially given Shackleton’s current deal at Elland Road is due to end in June 2024. But having starred this term, Hay says it is not unlikely that Shackleton gets a new deal.
Hay reported: “Shackleton, who turns 24 in less than a month, is in the last year of his contract. The club are yet to offer him an extension, although it is not unlikely that Farke will instigate talks about one.”

Shackleton has been superb. Not least, has he been excellent in pre-season and when given the chance – but he has done so in a number of positions. Right-back, left-back, central midfield and right wing.
Incredible. The new Stuart Dallas, if he was not that already. The soon-to-be-dad is the kind of player that needs to be kept at least while we are in the Championship. A new deal is more than deserved.
