Leeds United have made another behind-the-scenes appointment with Gary Penrice having joined the club’s recruitment team.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who report Penrice has made the move to Elland Road on a short-term deal in a further boost to the Whites’ summer window.

San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have moved quickly to improve the infrastructure of the club since receiving EFL approval, making a number of key staff changes.

Gretar Steinsson joined Nick Hammond as part of Leeds’ recruitment setup last week, becoming technical director, a role that didn’t exist under the previous ownership of Andrea Radrizzani.

And Penrice is now the latest transfer expert to join the team at Leeds, having worked with Hammond previously at other clubs.

Penrice worked alongside Hammond during the two’s time together at Celtic, where he held the role of chief scout between 2020 and 2021.

The 59-year-old has also spent time at the likes of Everton, Leicester City, Stoke City and Queens Park Rangers, bringing a vast amount of experience to Leeds.

Based on the fact he is being brought in on a short-term basis, Penrice is likely to be here for the remainder of the current window, which closes on September 2.

At this stage, that is also when Hammond is expected to depart, though according to Graham Smyth, there is the possibility he remains in West Yorkshire on a longer term basis.

Leeds still have plenty of work to do in terms of incomings this summer and Penrice’s experience should help play a big part in getting the right players in for Daniel Farke.
