Nick Hammond could now stay at Leeds United beyond his current interim contract.
That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who reports Leeds are happy with the way Hammond has approached a difficult summer window since his arrival over a month ago.
Hammond was San Francisco 49ers Enterprises’ first appointment at Leeds, with the former Newcastle United and Celtic man handed the role of interim football advisor.
He was tasked with overseeing the club’s summer transfer activity with previous sporting director Victor Orta having been sacked from his position at the beginning of May.
His departure sparked a full investigation into the recent failings of Leeds’ football operations department, which started to take some new shape yesterday.
Smyth says Hammond could stay at Leeds beyond interim period
Leeds confirmed the appointment of Gretar Steinsson as the club’s new technical director on Tuesday, who will be working alongside Hammond on recruitment this summer.
Adam Underwood also moved from his position as academy manager to head of football operations, with Hannah Cox the club’s head of football administration and Rob Price head of medicine and performance.
That may not be the end of the appointments, though, with a new permanent director of football still potentially on the agenda.
Leeds confirmed after the arrival of Hammond in June that they will look to bring someone in by October to replace Orta, with Brentford’s Lee Dykes having been mentioned as a target.
However, due to the way Hammond has conducted himself since joining at Leeds, he may well be handed the job on a long-term basis.
