Hoffenheim are set to sign Burnley striker Wout Weghorst on a season-long-loan which could be a boost to Leeds United’s chances of keeping Georginio Rutter.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Hoffenheim have reached an agreement with the Clarets to sign the Dutch international on loan with medical tests taking place today.
Hoffenheim have been keen on bolstering their striker options this summer and Rutter is among the players to have been linked.
Of course, Rutter only left the Bundesliga outfit to join Leeds in January in what could eventually be a club record signing for the Whites if add-ons are met.
The 21-year-old struggled in his first few months at Elland Road but is set for a big role under Daniel Farke this season thanks to his ability to both lead the line, and play out wide.
Hoffenheim signing Weghorst is boost to Leeds’ hopes of keeping Rutter
According to Bild earlier in the summer, both Hoffenheim and Freiburg were keen on signing Rutter on loan following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.
However, this latest update from Romano is welcome news for Leeds as it would surely all but end their need of signing another striker.
Rutter missed Leeds’ Championship opener against Cardiff City following an injury he picked up in the final pre-season game at Hearts.
However, Rutter did start three of Leeds’ four friendlies during the summer which is a huge indication Farke rates him highly.
Once he returns, Rutter is likely to have the chance to make that number nine spot his own with Patrick Bamford out until after the first international break, and no striker having been signed yet.
