German newspaper Bild claim Hoffenheim are not the only club interested in raiding Leeds for our record signing in Georginio Rutter – but fellow Bundesliga side SC Freiburg are also keen to land the French attacker in a loan deal.

Rutter, 21, joined Leeds in the January window after having a hand in 19 goals during 64 games for Hoffenheim – half of which came from the bench, and out wide. But he has struggled at Leeds, failing to score in his 13 outings.

Just one Premier League start. Rutter has not been given a chance. A previous report from Bild claim Rutter is a target for old side Hoffenheim, on loan. Now, Bild deliver a new report and say Freiburg are also looking at Rutter.

Freiburg have connections with Leeds. They were the club that sold Robin Koch to Leeds for a fee of £13m back in 2020, following promotion to the Premier League. Also, Willy Gnonto has also been linked with a move to Freiburg.

Freiburg also keen to land Leeds attacker Georginio Rutter in loan deal

Freiburg’s interest comes after a wonderful 2022-22 season in which they finished in a lofty fifth place in Germany’s top tier – qualifying for the Europa League. Rutter’s old side Hoffenheim were mid-table, finishing in 12th position.

So, Rutter’s options are three-fold. Stay at Leeds, earn his place in the starting XI and restore his confidence against weaker opposition – continuing to get used to Leeds, English football etc. Or, return to Germany, with two options.

A return to Hoffenheim would make sense, on loan. He was flying for Hoffenheim, his confidence was high – earning him the big-money move to Leeds. If Freiburg are keen, he has to pick them due to involvement in Europa League.
