Leeds United saw an offer rejected by Coventry City for Gustavo Hamer as he now looks set for a move to Sheffield United.
That is according to journalist Alan Nixon, who says the Sky Blues saw off offers from both Leeds and Burnley before Sheffield United swooped in and reached an agreement.
It is said Coventry boss Mark Robins was caught by surprise at the speed the Blades have managed to agree a deal, with their interest only having become public knowledge this week.
As per Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, Hamer is set for a medical at Bramall Lane today, with Paul Heckingbottom having earmarked him as a top target after Sander Berge’s move to Burnley.
Sheffield United have put the cash raised from the Berge deal straight into a move for Hamer, much to the disappointment of Leeds.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Hamer throughout the summer but have been unable to meet Coventry’s £15 million asking price.
Daniel Farke is in desperate need of additions in the centre of the park and there would have been no one better to fit the bill than Hamer.
Hamer was the best midfielder in the division last season as he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists as Coventry got to within a penalty shootout of the Premier League.
Hamer will undoubtedly represent Sheffield United’s best piece of business so far following a summer of disappointment since promotion.
Leeds, however, will now have to re-think their strategy of midfield reinforcements with at least two new signings needed in that area before the end of the window.
