Leeds United’s search for a left-back between now and the end of the month is set to intensify, with the Whites yet to bring in a new option – but West Ham could be about to leave us filled with regret.

Junior Firpo has impressed in the last few games, with Sam Byram also fit. But both players are known for their proneness to injury – and Byram’s deal expires in the summer. He would love to sign a new one.

Firpo has been linked with the exit door, too. Leeds need a left-back, and one that will surely have been considered by those at Elland Road this month is Ipswich’s Leif Davis – as he shines at Portman Road.

The left-footer of course, spent four years at Elland Road – between 2018 and 2022. But he managed just 14 senior outings for Leeds. He left for Ipswich 18 months ago, starring for the Tractor Boys since.

A huge 26 assists and three goals in 70 games, helping Ipswich gain promotion last season and then, this term, starring in Kieran McKenna’s hunt for a place in the top two. Already, 12 assists in 25 games.

Leeds have got to rival West Ham in Leif Davis race

Now obviously, Ipswich are never going to do business with leeds at this moment in time. But, Premier League side West Ham want Davis – according to The Football League Paper (21st January, page 8).

If West Ham make a move for Davis between now and the end of the window, surely, Leeds have got to match that bid. Yes, it sees us admit our mistake – but Davis is probably the league’s best left-back.

Money talks and while Ipswich will not want to sell Davis to Leeds, the Whites have to match any offer West Ham make and at least put up a fight. Davis is the perfect January addition on the left flank.
