Sam Byram is one of seven Leeds United players that see their deals expire at the end of the season but he has said he would “love” to sign a new deal at Elland Road – a place he describes as “home”.
Byram, 30, has been brilliant for Leeds this season – when fit. Signed only in the summer after having to prove himself to those at Elland Road. He has since played 22 times in all competitions for the Whites.
It comes after just 98 appearances over the previous eight years at Norwich, Forest and West Ham. Now a key player at Leeds and with the Whites expected to sign a left-back, he could move over to the right.
Daniel Farke believes he is the best left-back in the division and that says a lot, given he is naturally a right-footed player. But Byram only signed a one-year deal and his contract will expire in the summer.
It is up to Leeds as to whether a new deal is offered to the Leeds academy product. Nothing has been reported as of yet. But Byram has told KageyVision’s YouTube channel that he’d love to stay at Leeds.
“I’d love to [stay here longer]. “Me and my partner are very settled. It’s home, family and friends. A huge club. I’d love to stay, you can never guess the future. Just got to keep playing and see what happens.”

It is a tricky one. From a Leeds fan perspective, keeping Byram in the side would be great. A player that gets it. But, is it worth keeping a player that is prone to injury and isn’t really, of Premier League quality?
He would be good back-up given he can stay fit, and that he can play on both sides of the defence. It would be a sensible move to keep Byram, but only if he is happy to play cover – rather than as a starter.
If Leeds fail to go up, then it is a no-brainer to keep Byram and hand him another 12 months. But at this stage, there’s no point handing Byram a contract further than a year – and play it, year by year.
