23-year-old still leading Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter in key stat, after Leeds exit

Crysencio Summerville got his fifth assist of the Championship campaign on Saturday as Leeds United beat Plymouth, but he and Georginio Rutter still remain behind Leif Davis in terms of assists.

Summerville drove at the Plymouth defence on Saturday before laying a perfectly-weighted pass into the path of Joel Piroe, who calmly finished under the goalkeeper’s legs to score his sixth Leeds goal.

It took the Dutchman to five assists for the Championship season, the same amount that Rutter also has at the moment. Both find themselves in the top five for assists in the League this season. Excellent form.

But, both also remain behind a player that Leeds sold only in 2022 – during Jesse Marsch’s reign. Davis has been key for Kieran McKenna since he moved to Portman Road, crucial in last season’s promotion.

Of course, Davis needed to leave Leeds – a move that cost just £1m – to realise his best potential. He was never going to break into the side in the Premier League. That is despite our need for left-backs.

Leeds duo still sit behind Leif Davis in assists rankings

But this season, he is really showing what Leeds could have had – had we decided to only loan Davis out and decide to keep him on the books. He is in stunning form for Ipswich, boasting a huge seven assists.

It must also be remembered that Davis is operating on the left side of defence. Rutter and Summerville are key members of the front three. It highlights just how effective Davis has been in an Ipswich shirt.

Did Leeds make a mistake in letting him go? No, he needed to go to become the player he is now. Is he showing Leeds what might have been? Without doubt. Should Leeds consider a return? Absolutely.
