Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has told the Hull Daily Mail that his side simply cannot afford to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, or meet the Toon’s asking price – which could prove to be a boost for Leeds United.
Darlow is expected to leave Newcastle after nine years with the Toon, and 100 appearances. He went on loan in January to join Hull, where he impressed during the second half of 2022-23. He kept five clean sheets in 12 games.
Hull then, were very keen to keep Darlow this summer. Meanwhile, Darlow is a target for Leeds. The YEP’s Graham Smyth told the Inside Elland Road pod over the weekend that we want Darlow – and German ace Alexander Nubel.

The Sun say Leeds have been joined by Bournemouth in the £5m race for Darlow. But Rosenior has now said his side have ended their interest in Darlow – because the fee Newcastle are requesting is simply too large for Hull.
“I don’t think Karl is someone that will be joining us,” Rosenior said. “Karl is someone who I loved working with, he’s an outstanding goalkeeper but the price that Newcastle are speaking about is something we can’t do this summer.”
Leeds boost: Hull cannot afford to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow

Hull were always going to be outsiders in the race to land Darlow. But it might have been a move Darlow would have liked. Hull would have meant a small relocation – and he would be a big fish in a small pond with Rosenior’s side.
A move to Bournemouth is the opposite end of the country, while Leeds may still offer Darlow a chance to remain where he is. At the end of the day, it is likely it will come down to whoever presents the better offer for Darlow.
