Leeds United have been joined by Fiorentina in the race for Genk attacker Joseph Paintsil.
That is according Sports World Ghana and journalist Owuraku Ampofo, who report talks are ongoing with both clubs and Genk over a potential deal.
Sky Sports first reported of Leeds’ interest in Paintsil on Tuesday evening, claiming he is one of several attackers on the club’s radar before the window slams shut next Friday.
It is said that Genk could consider offers in the region of £8.5 million with Southampton having also been linked with a move earlier this month.
Fiorentina will provide stiff competition for Leeds if they are to firm up their interest, with the Italian club able to offer both top-flight and European football.
Leeds joined by Fiorentina in race for Genk’s Paintsil
Paintsil would represent a significant coup for Leeds if they are to get it done having scored 14 goals, and provided a further 14 assists in 30 league matches last season.
If Leeds are to firm up their interest, it will be intriguing to see whether they view him as a striker, or as someone who will play just in behind.

Daniel Farke is in need of both a number nine and 10 before the end of the window, with Paintsil more of a winger who can play centrally.
It also remains to be seen whether Wilfried Gnonto’s future will have any sort of impact in their pursuit after his dramatic return to training yesterday.
Like Paintsil, Gnonto is primarily a winger who can also play centrally if needed.
