Kalvin Phillips has posted a one word reaction on Instagram to one Leeds United star’s display on Friday night as Daniel Farke’s side picked up a huge win in the Championship promotion race.

For much of Friday’s game, it appeared that Leeds were heading for a really disappointing defeat. Leicester led for most of the first 80 minutes. And, while Leeds missed a couple of brilliant chances early on, it was the Foxes who seemed well on top during the second-half.

But then, everything went crazy.

Kalvin Phillips lauds Archie Gray after Leeds win

Connor Roberts equalised with 10 minutes remaining. And it was Archie Gray who put Leeds in front shortly after. It initially appeared that Gray’s strike would go down as an own goal, with the ball taking a wicked deflection off Wout Faes. But ultimately, Gray does appear to have been awarded the goal.

Daniel James and Patrick Bamford combined for the crucial third which confirmed the victory in stoppage-time.

It was an amazing night. Leeds secured the result which has potentially opened up the title race. And it was a real statement concerning how this side never appears to be beaten, particularly in 2024.

Gray definitely had his work cut out. He was mostly tasked with containing Stephy Mavididi. And he did a fairly good job given that he is not a right-back, and how good Mavididi has been.

He also stepped up when switched to left-back late on. And after taking to Instagram, Gray was lauded by the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Jaidon Anthony and Georginio Rutter…

Teenager continues to raise the bar

It is remarkable just how good Gray has been. He has found life tricky against some of the best wingers in the Championship this season. But most of the time, you would hardly argue if told that he was a right-back first and foremost.

He appears to be such a special talent. And, whoever is awarded that second goal, that moment will always be remembered as Gray’s.
