Junior Firpo produced another strong display for Leeds United in their win over Norwich City last night.
The Whites ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Patrick Bamford’s 13th minute header but it was far from a vintage performance from Daniel Farke’s side, as they spent long periods defending resolutely.
And Firpo played a huge part in that as he kept Norwich’s dangerman Jonathan Rowe very quiet, while also driving forward, delivering crosses and going close to scoring.
Firpo is now actually one of the most experienced players in this current Leeds squad and speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after the match, was asked about whether he now feels like a leader.
He admitted that he is someone on the player who likes to be vocal, before joking that he is always getting on at teammate Georginio Rutter when he loses possession.
Firpo jokes he is always on at Rutter
He said: “You have Joe Rodon who is a quiet guy, he doesn’t speak too much, but he is a leader on the pitch. I shout a lot, I scream a lot, I am a little bit the one is angry all the time when we lose the ball with Georgi that he does his things and sometimes you don’t need it, but I am one of the oldest at 27. It shows how young the dressing room is. I don’t feel like a leader but I help everyone who needs help.”
Completing six dribbles and making two key passes, Rutter was outstanding again last night but, of course, he is the type of player who will lose possession a lot as he is always trying to make something happen in any area of the pitch.

At the same time, it is great to hear that someone like Firpo is always looking to drive standards of those around him, which just shows how much confidence he is playing with.
Firpo had been getting linked with a move away ahead of the January window as he continued to suffer with injury issues, but there is surely no way he is leaving now.
Since the turn of the New Year, Firpo has been excellent with four assists and the hope is now he can continue to stay fit to continue his momentum.
