Champions League side Real Sociedad were linked with a surprise move for Junior Firpo but it now appears the star will stay at Leeds United – judging by Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on Twitter.

Firpo, 27, has impressed for Leeds in recent weeks, laying on four assists in our last three Championship games for the Whites. He is fit and firing. But that form had seemed to attract that of Real Sociedad.

It was claimed today in a report that Sociedad were considering Firpo. The high-flying Spanish side are in need of a new left-back after Aihen Munoz suffered an anterior cruciate ligament issue this month.

Sociedad need another option on the left of defence alongside on-loan Arsenal star Kieran Tierney. It was claimed that Firpo could be the man they target. But, it seems Sociedad have signed another.

Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to confirm that Atletico Madrid defender Javi Galan is having a medical at Sociedad. The Spanish defender will be joining Atleti on a straight loan.

New Fabrizio Romano update surely means Junior Firpo staying

It is a good thing, given Firpo’s current form. His form of late has been excellent, with former Leeds manager Neil Redfearn even claiming his recent display against Preston was one of his best for Leeds.

Leeds came into the window thinking a new left-back was crucial. But while Firpo continues to churn out this kind of form, is it really necessary to sign another? Perhaps, a right-back that can play both sides.

But Sociedad will not be signing Firpo as long as a move for Galan – who was once linked with a move to Leeds during Marcelo Bielsa’s reign – goes through. A medical is ongoing and a deal will be done, soon.
