Leeds United’s new away kit has received a rousing reception from supporters and now some of the players have given their verdicts too.
Whites fans have been waiting five years for another proper yellow away strip and it would be fair to say Adidas have delivered the goods with this year’s shirt.
The first season under Marcelo Bielsa was the last time one of Leeds‘ alternate shirts was based around the club’s traditional yellow colours, but this one may be even better.
Adidas have opted to go down the line of a retro theme which has been successful at some of their biggest clubs in Arsenal and Manchester United.
This is because of the inclusion of the iconic smiley badge that represented Leeds between 1973 and 1981, with the kit very similar to that of the 73/74 season.
Firpo and Rutter deliver Leeds away kit verdicts
Even in the Championship, Leeds still have one of the highest commercial revenues across the whole of English football.
It would not be a surprise if that soared to record highs this year based on the fan reaction to the kit, and it appears as though some of the players feel the same.
Junior Firpo is one member of the squad who has given his reaction to the shirt via his official Twitter account, stating that he has ‘fell in love’.
During the behind-the-scenes footage of the launch captured by Leeds’ social media team, they also got a live reaction from Georginio Rutter.
Rutter is big into his fashion off the pitch and has been known to wear some interesting, bright-coloured outfits, meaning the yellow strip fits him to a tee.
He said: “Very good, yellow is my favourite colour. I like this [badge] because I know the story, I am very happy with this and hopefully I am going to score some goals with that.”

Firpo and Wilfried Gnonto among Leeds players modelling
It was good to see both Firpo and Wilfried Gnonto playing a key role in the kit launch video amid speculation linking them with moves away.
Firpo is reportedly wanted by former club Real Betis, while Everton are said to be confident about agreeing a deal with Leeds for Gnonto.
However, Leeds’ position since the sale of Archie Gray is that any exit will now be on their terms and so they certainly aren’t in any rush to let either go.
To see them front and centre of something like this is hopefully a sign they will be staying, which would be massive for Leeds’ promotion hopes.
