Daniel Farke was left ‘furious’ when Leeds United were not able to bring Junior Firpo on in place of Sam Byram immediately against Plymouth Argyle.
That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who spoke of Farke’s fury during Leeds’ 2-1 victory over the Pilgrims at Elland Road.
Byram was forced from the field of play after picking up an apparent hamstring injury in the 54th minute of the match on Saturday afternoon.
The 30-year-old was unable to continue and therefore headed straight down the tunnel, but Leeds were not afforded the time to make a substitution with Firpo getting ready off the pitch.
With Leeds down to 10 men, Plymouth countered in the exact area of the field where the Whites were a man down, which saw Kaine Kesler-Hayden fire an effort across the face of goal.
Farke furious with incident in Leeds win
After Kesler-Hayden’s effort had gone wide, Leeds were finally able to make the sub which saw Firpo come on for his first appearance of the season after injury.
Had that shot gone in, it would have certainly made for an extremely nervy half-an-hour as Leeds continued to waste good openings in the second half to kill the game.
Leeds had looked comfortable going into the break with a 2-0 lead as both Dan James and Joel Piroe netted quick fire goals to steer Farke’s side towards a third successive win.
Ben Waine then halved the deficit with six minutes to play as the away side pushed for a leveller, which they were unable to find as Leeds saw out the victory.
In truth, the referee had a poor afternoon for both sides as he continuously let clear fouls go unpunished, but thankfully his decision not to let Firpo come straight on, did not impact the result.
